Abstract Embryonic development in mammals is strictly controlled. Yet, anomalies regularly occur within certain species. The pig one of few species where variation vertebra numbers frequently occurs. Domesticated lines typically have a greater number thoracic and/or lumbar than the vertebrae most mammals. Number functional teats also variable swine and deviation from bilateral symmetry common. To further investigate correlation teat counts numbers, genomewide association study was conducted using 5,939 genotyped animals USMARC population representative commercial swine. All were with four different Illumina-based BeadChips. However, there no other that overlapped number. Correlation among ~0.21. if SNP surrounding removed, dropped to 0.14, while ~0.90. Genomic heritabilities 0.36 0.78.
